Gold leaf printing is one of the more recent techniques employed by photographers. The technique was pioneered by Dan Burkholder, USA.
Gold leafing (also called gilding) has been around for millennia and was traditionally used in architecture, for decoration of art and for small pieces of jewellery.
Today photographers are experimenting with gold leaf, silver leaf and palladium leaf to accentuate the luminosity of an image.
It is one of the alternative photographic processes which blends both the modern advantages of digital with hand techniques and applications.
For further instructions on how to gold leaf on vellum, you can view the Dan Burkholder video here.
